General presentation
The interactive map of museums and ancient sites is a collaborative project developed by the cultural association Nunc est bibendum and published on the website nunc.ch. This cartographic tool lists heritage sites dedicated to ancient civilizations — Roman, Greek, Celtic, Egyptian, etc. — around the world.
Project objectives
- Centralize information on heritage sites linked to Antiquity in a single, accessible resource
- Facilitate discovery and visit planning for ancient history enthusiasts, teachers, researchers and the general public
- Promote the world’s ancient heritage, from major international museums to lesser-known archaeological sites
- Build a participatory resource enriched by the community of enthusiasts and experts

Organization by thematic layers
The map offers eight superimposable layers that users can activate or deactivate according to their needs:
- Internationally renowned museums – Major institutions recognized worldwide
- Museums dedicated to Antiquity – Institutions exclusively devoted to ancient civilizations
- Art and history museums with ancient collections – General museums with sections dedicated to Antiquity
- Archaeological sites – Extensive archaeological areas presenting a set of material remains dating from Antiquity
- Ancient remains – Isolated monuments or structures dating from Antiquity, preserved in situ
- Roman amphitheatres – Architectural works characteristic of Roman civilization
- Other places dedicated to Antiquity – Interpretation centres, archaeological parks, educational spaces
- Ancient city walls – Lines of ramparts or enclosure walls dating from Antiquity, still visible, partially preserved or now disappeared.
Interactivity
- Clicking on markers: automatic redirection to the official website of the place or to a reliable source of information
- Display customization: possibility to combine layers according to individual interests

Current data (July 2026)
- More than 300 museums listed
- More than 300 ancient sites mapped
- Geographical coverage: well developed for the French-speaking area (France, Switzerland, Belgium, Québec), still incomplete for other regions of the world

Participatory dimension
The project is based on a collaborative approach: the map grows thanks to contributions from the community.
How to participate?
- Identify a missing museum or site
- Check that it does indeed have ancient collections or remains
- Find the link to its official website
- Report the missing entry via the contact page
The Nunc team will then integrate the new places into the map.
